Browsing Music

Q: Do your tracks have DRM?
A:  NO! All of our tracks are 100% DRM Free.

Q: What is DRM? (Digital Rights Management)
A:  Digital Rights Management is a technology used to protect the interests of owners of their content. Typically, authorized recipients or users must acquire a license in order to consume the protected music according to the rights or business rules set by the content owner. However DRM'd tracks have been increasingly controversial due to the fact they do not allow the consumer to do a number of things with the music they have purchased, such as copying their music to their portable player or burning to a CD. Sometimes it can even be troublesome just to play the music you have paid for! By offering all of our tracks DRM-FREE we give all our customers complete control over the music they have purchased. Please remember that it is illegal to share or distribute the music that you purchase from DRUM&BASSARENA Download.

Q: What is the difference between 'New Releases' and 'Just Added'?
A:  New Releases are the very latest tracks. They are new to the market regardless of format, not just as digital downloads. 'Just Added' tracks are not always new releases, but are tracks that have been recently licensed for download, regardless of their release date.

Q: Next to each track you have release date. What does this actually mean?
A:  Release Date is the actual date that the record was released in it's original format – direct to vinyl. For Example, Origin Unknown – Valley of the Shadows was released on 01/11/1993.

Q: What quality and file formats are your tracks?
A:  We offer MP3, FLAC & WAV.

MP3
We offer MP3 192kbps and MP3 320kbps for all of our tracks. MP3s are lossy compression file formats which means they are dramatically reduced in file size so you can download the tracks super quick. They work by removing some of the information from the file that cannot be noticed by the human ear. They are virtually indistinguishable from CD quality and so the sound quality is perfectly acceptable. Technically MP3 192kbps tracks are of less quality than MP3 320kbps tracks because they are more compressed. On the other hand they are smaller in size meaning they will take up less space on your computer or mp3 player. Many digital download stores ONLY offer tracks at 192kbps. The MP3 has become a hugely popular file format because of its combination of small file size and good sound quality.

WAV
Wave files are the original uncompressed masters of the tracks. You simply cannot beat WAVs for quality of sound. Unlike MP3s, WAVs are not compressed and so they hold all of their original digital information. This does mean that WAVs are rather large files.

FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec)
In terms of quality FLAC is the same as WAV, but smaller in file size. Put simply, FLAC gives you superb compression with no compromise on sound quality. FLAC is a lossless compression method meaning smaller file size than a WAV but with no loss in sound quality. It works very much like ZIP or RAR does for normal files but it is designed specifically for audio.

Q: Why would I buy FLAC when I can buy a WAV?
A:  FLAC has been a revelation for those who demand the highest quality audio at a smaller file size than a WAV, whether it’s for faster downloading or storing more on your hard drive, MP3 player or CD.

Q: What do I need to play a FLAC file?
A:  The beauty of FLAC is you can decode the files back into WAVs using a very simple application which you can download. For a full list of programs that support FLAC playback & CD Burning plus lots more information on FLAC please visit http://flac.sourceforge.net. Here you can also download the FLAC FrontEnd application, allowing you to covert WAVs to FLAC and vice versa.

Q: You don't have something I want!
A:  Tell us! We're always looking to add more tracks to our catalog.

Q: I'm having trouble – what are these 'Cue' and 'Play' buttons for?
A:  If you're unable to play any tracks, you might be missing Shockwave Flash. We have a funky audio player embedded into our site which uses Flash technology, and you'll need the latest version to preview tracks. If you don't have the plugin, you will be prompted when you first visit the site to download, otherwise please click here to go to the Adobe site to get it now.
