Those lucky enough to catch RAM's recent psychotic Xmas shindig MAY
have hazy memories of being plastered against the wall by the
off-kilter meltdown of 'Teleportation', suited as it is to a VERY
large soundsystem, armed to the back teeth as it is with a concussive
bounce that verges on painful. In a good way. My ears start ringing
when I think about it. 'Teleportation' has this habit of sticking in
your head for days, it seems: think Sub Focus facing off with Simon
Bassline Smith while John B sneakily messes with the settings and
rearranges the plugs and dials. 'Glow' on the flip extends the
parameters a different way, fuelled up with rich, trancy,
night-driving atmosphere (and it's just itching for some proper MC to
get stuck right in... 'Who's inside the ride? Somebody scream!' That
sort of thing).
The word which comes to mind about this release is 'heavy'. OK, two
words: 'heavy' and 'epic'. Speaking of which, certain Big Things are expected of Dirtyphonics in 2010: having been named Best Newcomer at the D&BArena Awards earlier this year, they've had support from (RAM vet) Shimon's Audio Porn label and have some ambitious plans to spray it all out L.I.V.E. to rapturous audiences; they are thinking BIG. You get the feeling that some naughty plans are being hatched behind the scenes by these crazed French mavericks, watch this.
