Isis / Cave In Reviews

Written on 14/06/2011

Easily one of – if not the – most diverse and unpredictable duos in drum & bass, June Miller are like a musical mystery wrapped in an enigma or something. Over the last eighteen months these conquering chameleons have appeared on no less than ten different labels – and in an indubitably different outfit each and every time. In its short life Eternia Music has established itself as a house for heads who both perceive and produce with a progressive palette, so it simply makes sense that the following two tunes should show up on such a label.
Mind altering in a way that usually requires more than just music, "Isis" is a truly transportive tune. Lazy, hazy, moody and mystical, it provokes thoughts of cruising down the Nile at an Egyptian pantheon opium party. Fun drugs may be illegal in most places, but thankfully this addictive piece of mellow music isn’t – then again, even if it was, as a friend to sinners and artisans alike, the ancient goddess Isis wouldn’t give a shit. Inhale deeply and drift away with June Miller today.
Definitely not designed for the dance floor, "Cave In" is effectively an aural preview for an art house suspense film, or a short story for your ears only. Scripting a compelling narrative without words can be tough for electronic artists, but here June Miller have made it appear effortless, creating a cavernous soundscape that as a whole offers far more than the sum of its few parts. Highly recommended for everybody other than those fully phobic of being buried alive. Take a deep breath.
