Let's start with the mighty 'Testimony' and also with a challenge: if this doesn't get dragged back to the edge and also spark the sort of rowdy outbreak that, let's face it, if you ain't up for it then why you in this music? Something about 'Testimony' not only stamps it as strangely recognisable from the off, even if you've never hard it, but as an instant passport tune. Not just the effortless, timeless breezy
delivery on the vocal front, not just the gentle funk lick (I say
again: you will know it!) but also the fact that the drop doesn't come
down like a ton of bricks: it doesn't need to. Just be aware that when the drop comes, it's understated. And somehow driven by the same devious mindset as, say Serum or Vapour. We are talking messy business here. SPY have been turning heads for some time and notably been propped up something huge on the Radio 1/1x front; joining forces with the genius Total Science (who, let's face it, only ever know how to release killers, thumb back through the manual and look up the mighty
'Jet Set', 'Give Me Your Love' or 'Soul Patrol' as IF you need to
know)... is just asking for trouble. 'Jericho' is just that: a stormer with a legit tangible 'Headz/Ray Keith/Doc Scott vibe, all see-sawing 90s synth action and touched with an occasional freaky, deharmonised vocal sample, a vocal to die for. And need we say, what with the combined forces of SPY and TS, can you guess how damn good the beats are? Yes yes, trust!
