The Critical imprint has long been testimony to quiet, accomplished
skill, always dealing out the aces in a measured pace, always a slick
offer. But this is special even by their standards, Kasra's immaculate
'Timbre': long, linear, low-end terrain with pearly clouds of faint
harmonised vocal textures drifting across, then suddenly switching for
a few bars to full-on, hands-down (or in the air?) ravey breakage &
mentalist choppage... Then what? Four on the floor? Almost, but
instead the reel is skillfuly drawn back in from you, pushing you
towards a more cinematic domain. Confused? Don't be: 'Timbre' simply
WORKS. Just listen and imagine it deep into the set locked down
somewhere furtile between Plus Ultra, Amit's moody urban realism and your typical late night vibe locked down with the Intrigue massive in Bristol, shall we say. 'Perception' on the flip works a peppery sidestep, hard as nails yet infectious and jittery as hell, offset with a warping, grinding, gently filtered deathstar synth, hovering overhead: can imagine 'Perception' being drawn by the likes of Alix
Perez, Commix, Marcus Intalex just to name a few. It's all about
balance and good taste with the Critical camp and on the evidence of these two utter killers they've again smashed it to pieces.
