Shogun Audio Evolution EP Series 1

Waste no time and bounce straight over to that superb Icicle tune,
'Minimal Funk'. Already a staple of any rolling set from Rockwell to
Loxy and the standout of this big brash 'Evolution EP'... we are
talking bona fide passport tune material here what with it's skewed
heavyweight slabs of abstract percussion, it's a masterclass of 'less is more' by one of the dons and certainly one of the Netherlands' finest, the Icicle. You need this in the box right now, do not sleep. 'Can't you see it's all oooover?' pleads the gent on 'Overtime' (you know it already, don't you?) and who could argue with him? Least of
all us, far too locked in as we are into Spectrasoul's expressive,
fluid rework of the Friction (Shogun supremo) /K Tee classic, managing
to be BOTH classic and future-thinking liquid. Love the understated piano lick. Spectrasoul pop up once more with the vocally-inflected 'Bygones' which is weirdly reminiscent of those mysterious Black
Pocket boys - think Steve Spacek and dBridge - but perhaps a little
more mainstream re the vibe. A good thing. It's bittersweet, slightly
melancholic but very very infectious. Main room material. Phace rounds off proceedings with the booming Ed Rush-like 'Technology' (it has a
sample of a voice saying 'Technology' too, which I like), and is as cold and distant as the cityscape on the cover. Yes yes. Four hands-down killer cuts on the 'Evolution EP' then, nuff said.
